BotLord Scribemaster is back from vacation and capturing and sharing MIDI files on our Discord server again. The Bards Guild MIDI Library has also been massively expanded, now with over 130,000 unique MIDI files!

LuteBot3

LuteBot has also been upgraded with features for Mordhau and Rust Instruments, including track filtering and octave shifting, and integrations with BitMidi and the Bards Guild MIDI Library. Now you can search, download, edit, and play new songs without even leaving LuteBot!

Lutemod

Monty has also released Lutemod to the community, which is now available on mod.io. This integrates the ability to play songs directly into the game, without an external app or console commands, which gives you faster response times and the ability to move around freely while playing songs. LuteBot3 also integrates a MIDI converter to support the new Lutemod!

BotLord ScribeMaster is 1.1 today!

Your trusty Bardlord has been busy developing a Discord bot exclusively for the Bards Guild Discord server, and I am pleased to announce version 1.1 went live today with some brand new features!

What Does BotLord ScribeMaster do?

Game Activity Tracking

BotLord ScribeMaster monitors when someone on the Discord server is playing a game supported by the Bards Guild, and assigns them a matching "Now Playing" role. You can now see at a glance how many guild members are in game, and you can even ping @Now Playing MORDHAU or @Now Playing Rust to try and get a band together with them on the spot!

MIDI Library Management

BotLord ScribeMaster monitors the MIDI workshop channels on the Bards Guild Discord server for new MIDI files, and adds them to the Bards Guild MIDI Library automatically.

MIDI File Visualizer

BotLord ScribeMaster creates a pianoroll PNG image visualizing every MIDI file in the Bards Guild MIDI Library.

LuteBot Playback Accuracy Score

BotLord ScribeMaster estimates how accurately a MIDI file will be represented when played with LuteBot in MORDHAU.

You can now search the Bards Guild MIDI Library directly from the Bards Guild Discord Server with the help of BotLord ScribeMaster! Give it a try in any of the MIDI Workshop channels, the bot can be called in a number of different ways! Here are some examples:

Pathfinder Game

I'm hosting a pathfinder game for the Bard's Guild! TBH any system works, it doesn't have to be Pathfinder. And I'm a new DM, I'd be happier if someone wants to DM, but I've got a lot of stuff written up and it's ready to get going.

Sesh is now hosting his own community Minecraft server; this server is his own and for his stream community, not necessarily the Bard's Guild, but if you go say hi to him on stream I'm sure he'll consider letting you join

Lutebot Megathread

Mordhau took their forums down for a short time, including the Lutebot megathread, so we got quite a few new members who came to us looking for it. Nice.
The megathread appears to be back up so... that was short-lived. But they're stuck with us now, so do your best to make them feel welcome!

Future Development

We're still working hard on a few neat toys coming up; Bardlord's Discord bot (WIP) should be able to handle storing and cataloging our Guild Library, and LuteBot should then be able to allow users to search and download from it. There has also been discussion about fancy things with Machine Learning and maybe even having a bot compose songs for us ... but so far it's all just discussion and no action. But there's a lot of fun stuff for us to play with, eventually.
So, keep an eye out for any of these cool things showing up in the coming weeks/months. Or maybe never, who knows, we're still feeling things out and seeing what we can really do

Bards Guild "Weekly" News, Vol 17: Epic Pandemic Edition

A big news "week" for bards...

Lute skin, huzzah!

Recent patchie finally brings us that long awaited ridiculously expensive lute skin! Rejoice! Start grinding to save up for that bad boy... if you weren't already saving up for months just in case the rumors were true.

Guild Mordhau server back online!

We have revived the guild Mordhau server, now without gigabytes of mods! We have some plans to build our new home into a cozy RP server for bards and are just now knighting our admins and getting them equipped to enforce a bard friendly neighborhood. Look for more info coming soon once the staff is settled and the doors are opened to the public.

Rust bards find a home!

The Bards Guild has graciously been given a home on the Entropia RP Rust server. An impressive venue with an entire stage was even built for us! We need to show our thanks by putting on an awesome rock concert now, obviously. Visit the Rust channel on our Discord server if you want to join the show!

BardBot 2.0 in beta testing!

We are very close to bringing BotLord ScribeMaster online for full time service in the guild, just a couple of bugs to work out still so he doesn't try to wrest control of the guild and attempt to overthrow the Bardlord (again). Once that's sorted out, we will have MIDI search capabilities built into our workshop channels! BotLord will also score MIDIs that are submitted for Lutebot compatibility, and display a pianoroll visualization of the song whenever a MIDI file is submitted, just for fun.

If you would like to help improve BotLord's MIDI search results, consider joining our @Library Curators on Discord. We need some actual humans to tag MIDIs with genre information, confirm artist and song names, and boring stuff like that in order for BotLord to return quality results.

Oh, the ScribeMaster will also bring back the "Now Playing" roles, so you can easily find and ping guild members who are currently in game to encourage everyone to organize their own impromptu events when they see other members already playing. BotLord will evolve new features over time as well (but hopefully not full sentience), to add some other exciting new and custom interactive elements to our Discord server.

Odysseus Exits.

A final piece of serious news, Odysseus has departed from the guild. "Odysseus who?" you might be saying, because he deleted literally every reference to his name on the Discord server on his way out. He also made efforts to remove every contribution he ever made to the guild as an Officer before leaving, including server roles, emojis, channel icons, and even entire channels that he felt belonged to him.

The rest of the Officers are all doing their best to clean up the mess after this temper tantrum. We are even working on some new and improved emojis to replace the ones that were deleted! If you find anything is still amiss, are missing any special roles you once had, or if you have new ideas or suggestions for the Discord server while we are forced to reorganize a bit, please leave a comment here or stop by the #guild-hall on our Discord server - now is the time to hear it!

This strong opinion on ownership is why Odysseus needed to leave the guild. While I as Bardlord literally own the Discord server, the Bards Guild is not a thing meant for anybody to own or control. It is a community for sharing music and playing music together, and the Officers of the Bards Guild are merely curators, moderators, and event organizers for this community. The Bards Guild is not a place that tolerates the lording of roles and seniority over others in place of common courtesy and civility. It's hard to wish someone well after they broke a bunch of stuff in your house before leaving, but good luck out there Odysseus.

Join our #bard-fashion channel on our Discord server and enter this month's St. Patrick's contest! Your costume obviously must be Irish themed, with bonus points awarded for authentic medieval Irish style. You can enter up to 2 submissions, which must be posted on Discord by the 14th to win. You are also welcome to bring your costume to our upcoming Bards Guild Irish Jig event and play traditional Irish songs with us!

MIDI Masters Challenge

Our illustrious Conservatory Staff has selected a range of challenging songs for a transposition competition which is open to any Guild members daring enough to tackle these tunes into two octaves! To enter, you must pick at least three songs from the list below, then find/create/edit/transpose your own MIDIs to make the best possible versions of these songs for Lutebot:

This competition is focused on quality, we are looking for best overall technique converting songs across a wide spectrum of genres and want to allow enough time for everyone to give their best effort. EVENTS

St Patricks Day is coming up, so prepare your irish folk MIDI's and tint your armor green for a Bards Guild jig this weekend! I'd announce a time but it will surely change from anything I try to pin down now, so tune in to the event channels on our Discord server for the details.

A St Patricks Bard Guard Tournament is being organized too, so members of the Bard Guard look for more news on your next promotion opportunity on Discord in the #bard-guard-barracks.

A MIDI transposition challenge has also been called! The Guild's best and brightest MIDI composers will all attempt their own takes on the same songs, and the Guild members will judge who is really the best MIDI composer... cast your votes or toss your MIDI edit in the ring if you have what it takes to play in the big leagues and earn a Guild title! The Bard Wars?

We won! Nobody can refute me on our absolutely crushing victory when the two Bards Guilds clashed on the battlefield - since nobody else showed up to the battle besides me, ♪Odysseus and some other members, they would obviously be lying because they weren't there and are giving you secondhand information. Congrats to us, the REAL Bards Guild!

Bard Guard KOS List

The Bard Guard has institued a KOS list for those most grievous of offenders against bard-kind. This way members of the Bard Guard can give them a little "hello" from you the next time they run into them on the battlefield in case they weren't able to come to your aide in realtime. Ping the @Bard Guard on our Discord server with the name of your new nemesis and the reason for giving them a black mark with the Bards Guild.

New Contests

We have a bunch of Steam games from Humble Bundles for to the winners of some new contests we're running. Get your submissions in by the end of the month, the winners will be announced in two weeks on March 1st!

- Bard Fashion Contest: Superheroes
Let's see your best superhero look posted in the #bard-fashion channel on our Discord server. It can either be a cosplay of some actual superhero, or some Medieval Mordhau superhero you just made up yourself. You must include a backstory and basic bio of your superhero's abilities and weaknesses with your screenshot!

- Rust Contest: Best Bard Base Design
We are tired of our guild's base getting raided and all the instruments stolen. Show us a better way to protect the bards guild band room from those bastard base bandits! Bonus points for clever incorporation of traps to make them regret their life choices for stealing musical instruments in the first place.

- Discord Contest: Latrinalia Bardlord's Picks
Give us some new original content to be appreciated by all on the walls of our #latrinalia channel on our Discord server! What does that even mean exactly? It's pretty subjective really and open to interpretation just like all good art is. That said, be sure to check out the pinned messages with the rules in the channel. Winner with the most votes also earns one FAST MODE PARTY pass for the #latrinalia channel to be redeemed at their discretion.

The Bards Guild Expands!

After some discussion amongst the guild officers following the release of Rust Instruments, we are officially expanding The Bards Guild beyond the borders of Mordhau and opening our doors to not just Rust but any games that support using MIDI files or MIDI controllers! You will see some changes to the Discord server have already been made to reflect this change, and there is already quite a bit of Rust based activity happening around the guild.

Unfortunately, Steam does not allow renaming Steam Groups, so we are unable to remove "Mordhau" from the Steam Group name to also acknowledge this change. We are currently discussing abandoning this group and forming a new one, or just creating specific Steam Groups for each Steam game the guild supports. Leave a comment if you have an opinion one way or the other!

Lutemod is Coming!

We have been testing the new Lutemod for a few weeks now, and it looks like it is nearly ready for release! I have made a video guide to help everyone get started quickly when Lutemod is made available.

Lutemod is an actual mod and will require a modded server to work, so start pestering all those Mordhau server admins you know to install Lutemod on their servers when it is released!

New Rust Instruments Info!

The Bards Guild Discord server has been abuzz with new information about the new Rust Instruments DLC. Find all that nerdy music data you need to know in order to play your MIDI songs in Rust in our new Rust support channel on our Discord server!

New Minecraft Server!

We have spun down our old Minecraft server as D.Mentia has taken ownership of another existing Minecraft community. Bards Guild members are welcome to use this private modded server running SkyFactory 4 for any guild activities.
