Since the owner of this group has been unavailable for a significant amount of time and I do not have sufficient administrative rights to properly manage this group, we have moved to a new group named D2X-XL here on Steam. Come on over and join us there.

since the last announcement has been made here. D2X-XL has been polished and many small issues have been honed out of it. New features have been added, two very important ones being that D2X-XL will look for the files it needs where it is deployed and will automatically put them in the proper subfolders, and that D2X-XL can now check for updates and download and install them if it finds any. This should make installing and maintaining D2X-XL a breeze now.

D2X-XL 1.14 Final Is Available

After months of development, testing, improving and polishing a new version of D2X-XL has finally arrived, offering major improvements in the areas of memory management, stability, UI accessibility and above that full modding support for Descent 1 and 2 two missions, allowing to mod every aspect of a level, be it textures, sounds, music, models, briefings or AI. You can find out more about what efforts went into this release and what they achieved in my worklog.

D2X-XL v1.14 Beta Test

After many many upgrades to the original Descent, the focus for the next D2X-XL version lies on stability and decreased memory consumption.

Significant parts of the code base have been rewritten to achieve this goal, and the beta test phase currently in progress has been very successful. Many long standing bugs have been fixed and particularly the multiplayer part has benefitted from that.

As a bonus, D2X-XL v1.14 will allow full modding of Descent 1 and 2 without having to replace original game data - which had been the only way to create Descent mods or total conversions in the past. Pumo's demo mission has been restructured to fully utilize the potential of this new feature.

Pumo, has been hard at work on his current project, Pumo Mines. This release sees Pumo release level 1 of pumo mines, as a total conversion mod.
