(possible, untested) LIPSYNCH FIX for Windows Vista / 7

Some friends of mine have informed me of a custom-made DLL that someone has hacked together to fit with the existing SDK and fix automatic phoeneme extraction on Windows Vista and 7. I haven't gotten it working myself yet, but all are free to try.

Here are the copy-pasted details:

http://steamreview.org/external/vdc/phonemeextractor_sapi5.4.zip

This updated extractor provides better results than the SDK's default
one. It works on Windows 7, and should work on Vista too (please could
someone test this). It will *not* work on XP.

To install, extract the contents of the zip file to
<SDK>\bin\phonemeextractors\. KEEP A BACKUP HANDY, as every time you run
the SDK Launcher, or in the case of L4D1/2 receive an update, the custom
DLL will be replaced with Valve's original and you'll have to put it
back in place manually.

(The easiest way to run Faceposer without using Valve's launcher is with
the Source SDK Windows Gadget:
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Source_SDK_Windows_gadget .
You'll probably find that FP crashes if you try to run it directly since
it's very particular about its working directory.)

Top FPS, A Lag Spike Films machinima

From the creators of Temp Fortress 2 comes this great machinima video titled Top FPS. Eight characters *Mainly Valve/Source* compete against each other to see who's best fit for the title of Top FPS.

This video contains a huge dose of Green Screen usage with Source SDK Faceposer and Unreal 3 editing such as custom animations for Master Chief and lip syncing for Marcus Fenix.

Be sure to check it out here!:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWuS9L_jctg

Ross Scott (Civil Protection) new website online

The episodes for Civil Protection and Freeman's Mind need no longer hold up cardboard donation signs on the streets of BlogSpot. The new website for Ross Scott's movies can be found at www.accursedfarms.com

On a related note, Noesis Interactive has recently released another of their Choreography DVDs, which go quite a bit more in-depth than the YouTube tutorials (or so I would assume, having spent my $$ on Fallout 3 instead)

http://www.noesisinteractive.com/training-modules-4.html

Clear Skies 2 Released

This is a bit of a late posting, and many of you may know it, but I thought I'd show it anyway. Clear Skies was, and is, a Faceposer machinima made using both Half-Life 2 and the Space Trading/Combat MMO Eve Online. If you haven't watched the sequel, check it out here:

http://www.vimeo.com/4596169

...And if you haven't watched the original, watch that too! They're both stellar examples of what Faceposer can do, as well as being exciting films from beginning to end.

http://www.vimeo.com/4778943

For highest quality, I recommend downloading the HD version.

Ross Scott, director of the Civil Protection machinima series, has released a DVD tutorial of various choreography features of Source, from lipsynching to map trigger creation and more. The DVD is $49.95 and can be purchased here:
http://www.noesisinteractive.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=cn_flypage.tpl&product_id=51&category_id=2&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53&vmcchk=1&Itemid=53

WeGame machinima contest (ends August 31)

WeGame.com, a YouTube-like site for gaming videos, has begun a machinima contest for the month of August. I'd like to see some Face Poser movies posted up, at the least to offset the number of seen-it-again WoW movies.

Please be aware that any machinima submitted must have been created recently. You must either have an original soundtrack, or only use music from the game you are working in. Finally, all content must be acceptable for ages 18 or less. There are no restrictions to game engine, so feel free to work with whatever you're best in. Good luck to everyone who decides to participate!

Full details here:
http://www.wegame.com/group/AugContest/

-Katana

Faceposer singing WIP by Zach

http://vimeo.com/899059
Zach is one of the people who has signed up as an unofficial support helper for Face Poser, and has just released this little WIP for a song he's working on. There's some pretty interesting uses of "tweened" gestures to make dance moves.

"The Monad" released

Sam Goldwater has recently finished a Half-Life 2 machinima with heavy use of Face Poser, Hammer, and a lot of great editing. I'm not exactly sure how else to introduce it, but...it really demonstrates what happens when you stop asking "How do I get my scenes into Gmod for quick lulz" and really commit to every aspect and learn all of what Source has to offer. It's pretty stunning, and it's the first HL2 film I've really had zero criticism for, so I highly recommend that you take the time to watch it.

http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=517640
