Trivia Tycoon is a Who Wants to be a Millionaire clone with a sprinkling of personality, but feels quite basic and a little buggy in areas.

Trivia Tycoon is based on the classic gameshow "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and there are obvious similarities like the three lifelines (ask the audience, phone a friend, and 50/50), and the rising amount of money with safety zones at £1000 and £32000. There are thirty seconds to answer each question or you can walk away and keep what you have earned, but what's the fun in that!?

Where the game differs however is that it has nine categories to choose from and all questions will be on the category you chose, rather than a mixed bag. There are some recognisable categories like history and geography and some more unusual ones like anime, football, and video games. There's also the option to choose Millionaire, with fifteen questions, and Billionaire, with thirty five questions. At the end of your run, your score is recorded in the stats.

There are meant to be nine thousand questions but when I played for an hour I got repeated questions which I wasn't expecting. The timer is completely messed up. I pressed an answer with two seconds remaining, because there is an achievement for this, but it said I had run out of time. Definitely a bug there. The phone a friend and ask the audience were always correct in their answers, and the stats which record your totals are not correct either. The host of the game communicates through text on the screen but they don't give you enough time to read it, so there are a few bugs but nothing major that can't be fixed.

Although, there are some special effects they are quite lacklustre and I think it needs more pizzazz, especially when you get a question correct. A little ding just does not cut it. The game could also use some leader boards perhaps and some more achievements. The presentation and GUI looks quite nice though with easy to read text and a nice looking money ladder.

Trivia Tycoon is okay if you are looking for a short burst of trivia fun based on the Who Wants to be a Millionaire gameshow. It does what it says on the tin really, but the main difference being that you answer questions on a certain subject rather than questions on every topic.

The game isn't very expensive but I can see its format getting tired in the long run but if you enjoy trivia and want to test your knowledge then it's quite well presented and worth a look.
