if this argument gets disabled, you can probably get it working via the same way
Jun 20, 2023 @ 5:15pm
update: "-vgui" still works
for the chat UI, could disable updates, and then rename the "packages" folder
the -nofriendsui launch argument will function again

I made the edits to stop updates.. I am worried that this update may totally break Steam Old Glory for a while.

You can easily downgrade using my guide, under the "Post-2024: For the Unprepared" section, it's mainly a guide for W7 support but it can be used for this just fine

Try it yourself. Last I tried that, Friends Network didn't work with that option, but you can substitute it by using Chat in a browser (game invites won't work though unless you can accept them inside the game itself).

is that launch argument still usable? i don't wanna update atm
especially given it's yet another rocky release
May 3, 2023 @ 3:28pm
-vgui can be used in the beta, which means for a couple of updates going forward, the interface will be usable in the current state of stable client branch rather than being 100% browser-based.

Again, it'll probably be yoinked soon in the same way as the other launch flags.

They also keep bringing back Whats New for those of us who keep finding ways to remove it. Take a hint valve, nobody wants your spam ads. :steamfacepalm:

All the Steam Client skins are gone with the latest Steam Beta and need to be rewritten
Apr 27, 2023 @ 7:59pm
And boom goes the dynamite. Bye bye, VGUI! My one, my only!

No more -no-browser option, looks like this is the final nail in the coffin for this dumpster fire of a client. Win7 and Win10 will be deprecated in a couple years, no doubt.

It's not even about happy at this point. For people like me who have 3000 installed games the client keeps crashing almost daily. I just want a functioning client at this point.
Nov 8, 2021 @ 9:01pm
Jeez, that's a lot of comments. I'm not sure what was in those 500+ comments but I'm guessing that people are still not happy about the new library two years after it was pushed out to everyone. I still wish that I was able to go back to the old library even though I do like the vertical covers more than the horizontal covers .

They deleted 500+ posts and banned people who kept asking for a revert option.

@MoogleMcGee @greenraven22
What happened back in June? I just learned about this incident.
Oct 31, 2021 @ 4:37pm
@dan83m I know how to add it in but currently requires manual editing of JS so not really implemented atm
Details here:
https://github.com/Jonius7/SteamUI-OldGlory/wiki/Advanced-JS-Tweaks#extra-context-menu-items

Basically a link to steam://cdkeys/ needs to be created in the code
Oct 25, 2021 @ 6:04am
dan83m, if you mean viewing product name when you try activate key, then now valve added for all packages special tokens and this token you can get only when you successfully activated the key.
Oct 25, 2021 @ 2:31am
With this is possible to have all options back like viewing the CD key?
Oct 14, 2021 @ 1:53pm
Sometimes I wish they just slapped new Steam builds with the HTML UI disabled into the Beta participation stuff, so that the backend would be compatible with newer Steam games.
Jul 30, 2021 @ 7:25pm
Noted, I am already planning to make some changes to put in OldGlory
Jul 29, 2021 @ 4:48pm
Hey, here's a warning for all of you. The Downloads section is being redone, so that's another large section of the client that's going to be unskinnable officially. It's out on the Beta branch if anyone wants to try to revert it.
Also a warning for those who use -nobrowser , as that section of the client will most likely become unusable. So don't update when that releases (if you haven't already stopped at the game properties window).

Unsubscribed? Consider yourself lucky. I was permanently banned.

They seemed to have also deleted 50+ posts.

False alarm, I thought they had nuked the "Now Released" thread. However I was just forcefully unsubscribed from it.

You can understand my confusion when I get notified that a thread has been "moved or deleted" and I can't find that one.
Jun 7, 2021 @ 10:54am
Which one
Jun 7, 2021 @ 10:48am
They just nuked the big thread that was being used
Mar 5, 2021 @ 7:59pm
Awesome I found the channel after the moderator locked the thread by following Tharon. Glad I stumbled on it because I think of Tharon as a god when it comes to Steam, because of his and others work I am still able to use the old UI.

Since they forced this change to this day I have not spent a dime on Steam and only get the free games at this time.

greatest thing ever done to steam community. thanks for fixing this new trash ui
Dec 23, 2020 @ 8:52am
groups are pretty hard to find now.
and the ui is only getting worse, great.
Dec 2, 2020 @ 7:13am
Sadly voting with our wallets isn't having much of an impact. I know several people who were complaining about since the beta but still bought games throughout the year.

I honestly think that there's not enough of us who are fully committed to a boycott. When it comes down to it most people are all talk. And that just gives Valve the advantage to keep doing what they do. :steamfacepalm:
Dec 2, 2020 @ 2:18am
Only 38 members! It’s a shame more of us can’t stick together. I’m going to tell my friends about this group, the only way to make real change happen at Valve is to vote with our wallets.
Nov 25, 2020 @ 3:22am
Hey people! Thanks for all these workarounds. For the creators of this I have a lot of cards in my inventory if you into that sort of things I will give you. I don't use most of them. The trade will take 15 days though but that's because of Steam. Thanks for all you do and maybe in the next month or so I can give something more.
Oct 24, 2020 @ 8:29am
Good work!
Oct 16, 2020 @ 12:29pm
Thanks a lot for your work and your support, guys!
Oct 3, 2020 @ 11:32pm
Thanks for this, I ought to post some more threads/guides
